Dolphins are one of my favorite subjects to photograph. Their sheer pace, energy and vivacious attitude while bowriding is a challenge to capture with a camera. At the interface where atmosphere meets ocean, they emerge to breathe with sheer athleticism. This can erupt into a spectacular display of color, light and motion in a brief instant.
What an epic journey the past few months have been. After travelling thousands of kilometers by plane, bus, car, train and by boat filming in Spain, Italy, France, Greece and Denmark, I am back in Melbourne, reviewing tapes, writing and beginning to edit the first components of ‘Whales of an Ancient Sea”.
Over the next 3 months, earthOCEAN will be producing a series of documentary films about the state of whales in the Mediterranean Sea, highlighting some of the scientists and conservation groups working to learn more about the species, while exploring some of the threats whales face in the region.
